Steve Anderson did the makeup and took this photo.
The makeup and wardrobe looked really cool, but made our job interesting when we got into the stunts - there was a lot of grappling and fights, and because of the costume design our ability to wear pads was a bit limited, and after the first take all the Orions were lined up for touchups as many of the smaller bits of "metal" on our skin had been rubbed off. I lost all three buttons on my left arm on the first shot. The other interesting bit is that my kidney belt looks like it has little metal pyramids on it, which are actually REAL little metal pyramids. In one scene, Big Show (as the leader of the Orion slavers) shoved Jolene Blalock (as T'Pol) towards me, and since she's about 5'7" the top of her head is about nipple-level - right at the top of my kidney belt. She came into me pretty hard and ended up bonking her face on one of those metal pyramids. I've worked with people who would have made a huge fuss about how hurt they were, but Jolene was really cool about it - she just iced it between takes to get the swelling down and was good to go again in by the time everything was reset for another take. She also kept telling me that I could be rougher with her as I dragged her through the slave market and threw her into a cage, which really made the scene look great. Tough lady, and really nice too.
The sharp-eyed may notice the row of inverted clothespins on the very top of my kidney belt. They were actually holding on some metal pieces that had been glued on and were still drying. The clothespins came off before I got to set.
